Make yourself a Mighty Job Flipper

Step 1

Trim a piece of A4 paper so it makes a square. Then fold it neatly in half diagonally (like the dotted lines opposite) and unfold it. Repeat in the opposite direction and unfold the paper so it's flat again.

Step 2

Then fold each corner in to the centre as shown.

Step 3

It should now look like this! The corner flaps should be facing you, (uppermost).

Step 4

Now turn it over and fold the new corners into the centre.

Step 5

It should now look like this! Turn it over again and it should have 4 little corner flaps that you can lift up a bit, like little pockets.

Step 6

Fold it in half along its length so it looks like this. You should now see how it's going to work - grab it by the corners at a and b and squish it together into the centre and the flaps will pop out. Using both hands stick your fingers underneath both sets of flaps and wiggle it into shape.

Decorate it!

You can do whatever you want to it, but we suggest you put a number in each section of the outside flaps as shown, so you should have numbers 1-8.

On the eight inside flaps (marked opposite with an asterisk), colour them in and write an attribute inside suitable for work, like: hardworking, intelligent, diligent, good at spelling, funky or whatever. Then right inside (when you open it up) write 8 jobs on the inside sections.

Play with it!

So to play:

• ask a friend to pick a number from the top flaps
• count out that number with the flipper
• wherever you stop, get them to choose an attribute from the inside flaps (they will only be able to see 4 of the 8)
• spell out the attribute, counting with the flipper (h-a-r-d-w-o-r-k-i-n-g)
• wherever they end up, undo the flipper and tell them what their job will be
